What is FSSAI Doing About It?

The FSSAI recently issued a strong warning to fruit sellers, distributors, and even wholesale markets. They clearly stated that:

  • Using calcium carbide to ripen fruits is illegal.
  • Strict action will be taken against anyone found breaking the rules.
  • Regular inspections will be conducted at fruit shops, godowns, and distribution points.

The food safety body has also asked state food departments to enforce these rules more strictly.
